Beach-Towel Heads in the Desert

Two blokes, standing in Death Valley, in mid-summer, with beachtowels on their heads. Is it ok to call yourself a 'towelhead'? When you've actually got a towel on your head? Anyway....

Despite having travelled far and wide, me and the mates have never been ones for being too well prepared when it comes to facing what nature throws our way.

In spite of all the barriers that we throw into our own paths, we always seem to have a laugh regardless. I suppose that's always been the key component of my experiences, having a good laugh.

Whilst other people have learned loads in the classroom, through reading complex texts etc. Mine's always been through just stoating about the place and getting into odd adventures. Another part of it, and one of the main things is that i've always seen the funny side of things and also known how lucky I was to wind in these bizarre situations and adventures. Now that's not that i've not been given all of the educational opportunities

In this case, it was simply me, my mate Andy....and I think it was Burge (you shall learn more of him at some point) who was behind the camera in this case. If you pardon the oxymoron, it was quite a cool photo as it was taken on the first digital camera that I ever got my hands on. Reckon it was about 1 millipixel or something stupid but amazing nontheless. Having come across this pic has actually had me trailing about trying to see if I could see if I had anymore around. It has taken me a wee while but I think I might know where I could get my hands on someother comically-lo-res images from back then so i'll be off to have a dig.

I think that my initial purpose of this post was to talk about some of the great times that i've had in great places, with great people in more of an overall way, before getting down to the nitty gritty of it all. When it comes to these moments, it's interesting to think about what they're there for? And in fact, in the context of my own troubles, what are memories actually there for at all?

Yes, they're there for quite a few things such as helping you to find where you left your pants, to solving rubix cubes and stuff like that. But in this context, it's about making yourself feel good and creating and growing bonds with other people. You and your mates will have the "remember that time in Death Valley?!" story that you'll use to cement or re-cement your friendship, whilst when meeting someone new (or being in a taxi as I seem to have a fondness for!), it's a case of "That reminds me of this time when me and my mates were....!".

You're finding something in common with someone, trying to impress them, simply trying to entertain them and things like that.
